Advanced Landscaping

Measured terrain editing · Terrain

Early developmentFS25_AdvancedLandscaping

The game's landscaping tools amount to raising and lowering with a brush; bringing an area to an exact height or pulling a ramp at a given slope is not really possible. This mod aims at measured work: you plant four posts to mark the area, choose a mode, see on screen how much soil will move and what it costs, then confirm. Five modes are written and tested: balanced flattening, flattening to a given height, an offset that keeps the shape of the ground, a ramp between two edges and a continuation at a given percentage slope. Early development: the editor is driven from the console for now, and the goal is a tab in the game's own construction menu.

Status: Early development. The mod is being tested on our own server; the feature list describes the goal and the released version may differ.

Features

What it does

  • Plant four posts, select, move, rotate: you mark the area on the ground and a live grid preview shows what will happen.
  • Balanced flattening: cut equals fill and the least soil is moved, using an area-weighted average rather than a corner average.
  • Flatten to a given height: bring this area to exactly that elevation.
  • Offset: moves the ground up or down without flattening it, keeping its shape.
  • Ramp and slope: a straight ramp between two opposite edges, or a continuation from one edge at a given percentage.
  • Before applying, the amount of soil to be moved and the cost are shown on screen.
  • The sculpt brush size steps are enlarged in single player and for the host.
  • On a server the client radius is clamped and the ownership check is tightened for a large brush.

Setup

How to use it

  1. Not released yet. The editor is driven from the console while the engine behaviour is measured; the interface comes after that.
  2. On release the zip goes into the mods folder of the server and of every connecting player.
  3. The planned interface is a tab in the game's own construction menu, with points picked by clicking on the ground.
